Allocutio – February 2024

When we are assisting in parish work, we should be engaged interactively with other organizations in the parish. Other organizations may not have the same Legionary spirit but we are all part of the Mystical Body of Christ. In a praesidium, some members may be very experienced but they do not necessarily know how to make use of their experience in a flexible way, instead of being interactive, their attitude may lead to division which is not healthy for an organization. When we encounter any problem, we must refer to the Handbook. We have asked the Concilium if there is any commentary on the Handbook but the answer is negative. A primary duty of any council is that of allegiance to its next highest council, there should not be any surpass, otherwise the spirit of the Legion of Mary will collapse and the Mystical Body destroyed. Chapter 9 of the Handbook clearly describes the relationship of the Legionary and the Mystical Body of Christ, and the principle of the Mystical Body is the foundation of the work of Legionaries. The Legion of Mary is a spiritual organization and we must bring out this value in our assignments. Our aim is to serve the smallest and weakest, that is why the interaction with other parts of the Body is very important. Let us reflect on the contents of Chapter 9 of the Handbook, in particular, our relationship with the Church and the Mystical Body of Christ.
