Handbook Chapter 33 (2) (d) – “Performance of the Weekly Work Obligation – the Legionary work is to be done in closest union with Mary”.

Legionaries are to work in closest union with Mary, that is, to work with the spirit of Mary, and to deepen the knowledge of Mary through action. We need to learn through action; one needs to experience pain in order to understand what is pain. Mary had been suffering with Jesus and experiencing pain. What is the feeling of shouldering a cross? If not being with Mary, we cannot experience the pain of Mary, we need to live with Mary so as to reap the fruits of our belief. We pray and do spiritual work in the hope of reaping the fruits of belief. But work is not only citing prayers, and we work not only for the purpose of work. When we are aggrieved in our assignments, or are being hurt, we do not only expect comfort from members. Let us reflect: in our prayers, do we let God and Mary touch us personally? The fruit of belief may be repentance but the healing is the change in life originating from our inner self; the profound unity with Mary is not only citing a piece of prayer or working in the name of Mary. Members need to have the initiative to learn and be firm in our belief. We need the unwavering determination to follow Mary. We had to be the messenger of God’s Words and the conveyor of the Gospel. We had to endeavor to learn from the Legion Handbook on how to be closely connected with Mary.

Clarification: the title of “Co-Redemptrix” cannot replace the role of Christ as the sole redeemer. Mary is the human who participated in the mystery of redemption. We need to follow Mary, work hard on evangelization, and bring God’s graces to more people.

The Bishop of Macau, Bishop Stephen Lee Bun-sang, shared in an article in the Jornal O Clarim on “Mediatrix of All Graces”. ‘Mary is our mediatrix, however, our only mediatrix is always Jesus. Between Jesus and us is the place of Mary, because Mary is our Mother. Hence, there is no change in our devotion to Mary. Our calling of Mary as our Mediatrix needs not be changed.…’ Mary has not replaced Jesus Christ as the Mediatrix between God and men. This is what Legionaries all along strongly believe in.
