Allocutio – February 2026

The Legion of Mary has an integrated existence. It is never easy to operate a praesidium. To manage a praesidium as the President or an officer requires a lot of efforts. Sometimes the devotion creates a burden. Do not let the workload diminish faith and piety, otherwise, you will lose more than you gain.

Functions of the Legion, such as Acies, emphasize the togetherness of members. Each Legionary’s participation in the function contributes to its success according to the rules of the Legion of Mary. Acies, in particular, reminds us that no one praesidium will do all the work nor a few experienced members govern, but instead, all praesidia participate together. Each member has a thorough understanding of the reason for attending and how to participate in the Acies so that the Acies resembles an army range in battle array. Everyone is clearly aware of and familiar with the Handbook, expressing union and dependence, and declaring fealty to Our Lady. All Legionaries understand the words of consecration and the renewal of the declaration of fealty. This is in response to the Gospel today.

Today’s Gospel asks us “not to make swear falsely” but shall perform your oaths to the Lord. “Do not swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is God’s throne; nor by the earth, for it is His footstool….; nor shall you swear by your head” because life is given by God. Do not be opinionated, neither heaven nor earth belongs to you, not even your own self. What can you pledge? As a Legionary, our consecration differs from the oath as mentioned. Our consecration is to God and to renew our fealty to Mary, Queen of the Legion. We are not making any guarantee but to the opposite, we express our desires that we are craving for Mary’s strength and blessing to fulfil. We should humbly pray to Mary and pray to God that we could respond to God’s Words. Acies is brimming with belief and trust, it is a sacred event allowing us to have this awareness and recognize our group identity which is very important.
