Allocutio – September 2021

Legionaries should perform their assignments with profound humility. In today’s Gospel (Mark 9:30-37), Jesus talked about suffering. On the way to Capernaum, the disciples were arguing who was the first, but they didn’t dare to let Jesus know because they were ashamed. Shame is a feeling of guilt, we can only change if we have this feeling of regret and can then convert. Jesus embraces children as children have room for growth, the journey of growth resembles how the disciples argued on who should be the first. We should be like a child, with a simple heart and willingness to grow; we must have the heart of a child in order to repent and convert.

We are joyful at the centennial celebration of the Legion of Mary but should not be proud. In comparison with the history of the Church, 100 years is not long. If we look at the Church history more deeply, we should not be proud at all. We should deepen our faith. We can make use of all spatial possibility to serve the Church. We need to possess a strong motive in strengthening the quality and not only increasing the quantity. We are being embraced as we are loved, and we certainly have the ability for improvement. Let’s work hard in the strengthening of the Legion of Mary!
